RUBBER SLABS FOR TRANSPORTER FLOORS
Rubber to cover the flooring of horse
boxes is becoming more popular, for many reasons. But mainly due to the
fact that rubber floors in stables are now accepted as the norm, proven
to work and not a strange addition.
The benefits from a rubber bedding system
is proven to have an advantage to horse welfare, time saving and reduced
bedding costs.
So if it works in stables, it must be
worth having a serious look at for use in your transporter. There are
many types of transporter flooring on the market, some may suit your
requirements, others will not, it's worth looking at the available items
and getting samples, to see what suits your needs.
Granulate rubber slabs are completely
safe, warm and due to their construction, have a cushioning effect,
which will stop vibration from the hard transporter floor. Studs may
also be worn on granulate rubber slabs.
PJP Rubber granulate or crumb rubber
slabs are completely British made, they are constructed from recycled
truck tyres and rebonded with special resin. The slabs are formed in
special moulds from the 100% recycled crumb to PJP Rubber's own
technical design to suit equestrian use, which has been improved over
the years of sales.
Are you looking for a non slip,
porous surface which requires no bedding, comes in one metre square
slabs, 30mm thick and is easy to lay and lift, just like large carpet
tiles?
If you are, then Peter Payne at PJP
Rubber is the person to talk to. Their slabs have many uses, come in
various thicknesses and colours, special slabs can also be made to suit
your requirements. 30mm slabs are used for transporter floors, stable
walls and walkways, etc. 45mm thick for stable floors, animal pens, etc.
Thicker slabs for safety and play areas. Loose crumb is also available
as a sand school mix. Comments

R6259 – Eve – East Sussex – 05/11/05 We had
some stable mats a few years ago and we now need to kit another
stable. R7517 – Neil
– Hampshire – 09/02/07 Previous orders;
13/12/04 – 25/05/05, for stables. Can I order some more
slabs please, I need 15 for the field shelter.
R7609 – Petra – West Sussex –
20/03/07 I bought some stable
slabs from you in October 2000, which are excellent. As my stables are
being extended I would like to order eleven more.
R7803 –
Caroline – Norfolk – 09/08/07 The stable bedding
mats, have been great and so easy to use, I would never use any other type of
bedding again. I have been so pleased
that I would like to order more for the other stable.

24/10/07 I've found a novel use
for the mats - don't ask...let's just say a couple of my mats will shortly be
growing things. If they do well then my gardener may be looking for some
for other clients so you never know where this may lead! We're using the mats
in the base of wooden planters as an alternative to crocks. I figured it
should work to retain the compost whilst allowing the drainage. I also
find that it assists in making excellent compost (when deep littered over the
winter using fast breakdown material such as aubiose, hemcore, wood pulp and
shredded paper). Mucking out now, it's ready to use straight on the garden
without further treatment so obviously the drainage assists in creating the
right conditions for fast breakdown.

– Aberdeenshire - 24/10/07 I see that the
competition is promoting the solid rubber mats as more hygienic. Having
used both, I abhor the solid ones. I've had problems with them icing up in
bad weather and the horses always smell regardless of the bedding used on top of
them. On the contrary, yours were excellent a few years back when the TB skinned
her leg. She was in bandages for 12 months, as a result and also had to
have skin grafts - with all operations and nursing carried out at home.
I was able to scrub down the mats with hibiscrub daily to keep them
sufficiently clean to minimise the risk of infection, and as they dried quickly
I had no concerns over injury from slippage on ice. They also protected
the "precision medical equipment" (Bioptron lamp) from damage every time I
dropped it through numb fingers or violent attacks by the nag who was frustrated
at being box bound 24/7 and suffering the indignity of having to wear brightly
coloured leg warmers!

– North Yorkshire – 31/07/08 In January this year
we bought 16 stable mats (45mm thick) and have been very pleased with the
results. Would like to place an
order for the same, for the other stable. 19/08/08, Just to let
you know the mats are down and in place. Thank you very much,
they are a blessing to me. It will make a huge
difference to me in the coming months. It now takes me ten minutes to muck out
both the Shire and the Ardenne mare.
R8198 – Sarah
– West Sussex – 18/11/08 The previous slabs you
supplied have been great, our customers love them, so do the
horses. They save some much
time with mucking out. The wall mats work
very well.
